Sewing Binding On A Quilt
Lay the two pieces one on top of the other pin and check that the binding isnt twisted and sew from V to V on a 45º angle.

In this video I show you how I hand sew the binding to the back of a quilt secure mitered corners and tie off stitches and bury them in the quilt. The corners are tricky but not too hard once you know the secret. Start sewing on the middle of one of the sides.
Remember that quilting is based on accuracy and precision and your binding should be that way too. What I call the three layers - top batting backing. Beginning in the middle of one side of the quilt and leaving a 6 tail loose align raw edges of binding with trimmed quilt edge Diagram III.
Start sewing where you pinned making a straight line through both layers of binding making sure the right sides are together. Sometimes also called birthing a quilt. Align the raw edges of the quilt sandwich and the binding tape.
Binding and tape can also be cut along the bias grain of the fabric 45 degrees to the crosswise or lengthwise grain. The pieces should fit nicely and the binding should lay flat. As a process quilt binding is the act of sewing the binding tape to the quilt which will be covered in a future post.
