Why do i get hiccups when i eat. This particular food causes very painful hiccups and I find them very difficult to swallow as well. And its the hard painful kind that sound like you just drank a gallon of whiskey. From a physiological standpoint the medical community has not reached a consensus on why hiccups occur.
